Rectified Spirit – The Second Coming

Well if you are a lover of Permutations and Combinations,none betterthan the Guwahati Rock Scene. But I never imagined that I would see thefollowing Gentlemen meeting at crossroads, and piecing a bandtogether. The past one year has seen the new generation of bandsapproaching with tentative steps towards the ever growing metal scene ofGuwahati. The metal band Rectified Spirit seems like, just leap frogged intoit.

Meet Samudragupta Dutta: I remember first meeting Samudra Da (as I call him), alawyer by profession, outside Guwahati’s High Court, discussing the infamousBLUES PUB fiasco. Other memories of him include, watching him hardly break asweat while playing Megadeth’s solos. In his second coming, he looks moredetermined than ever.

Nishant Hagjer: As Vishal J. Singh (read the mad scientist behind AmoghSymphony) describes him, he is “an android sitting on a drumkit”. Oneof the finest
Guwahati’s music scene exports and talents. He has been playing for variousprojects Silver Tears, Dark Horizon, D.O.T.H et al. He has the uncanny
ability of bagging the best drummer, whenever he lands up at a competition. IITGuwahati’s Rock O Phonix 2011 and Yamaha Zonal Finals being his recentkills.

Githarta Goswami: The baby faced assasin. The innocuous looking boy next door,morphs into an unstoppable possessed monstrosity when he plays. He has beenplaying with Doorstep Casket, and is one of the finest metal guitarist in thescene.

Rainjong Lepcha: The voice of Rectified Spirit. Rainjong is also the vocalist of DarkHorizon, which rose into prominence, since their twin wins at IIT Kanpur’ssynchronicity 2008 and Rock O Phonix, IIT Guwahati 2009, with him bagging thebest vocalist on both occasions. Undoubtedly the most versatile vocalist of thescene.

Himangshu Bora: The old Guard. He has been with the band since its inception.Recentlybagging the best bassist award at the Yamaha Zonal Finals. He is the backboneof the band and instrumental, in getting Rectified Spirit up and runningagain.

About the Band:
Rectified Spirit was Formed in August 2005. However, after a few years ofbeing active in the circuit, some of the band members left the band due tovarious
individual engagements, in 2009. Thereafter, founder member and guitaristSamudraguptaDutta and long term bassist Himangshu Bora reformed the bandagain in the year 2011 with guitarist and long term friend ofboth, ImtiyazAlam. With newly associated vocalist RainjongLepcha anddrummer NishantHagjer, the band started performing again.But due to suddendeparture of their friend ImtiyazAlam, on account of his pressing individualengagements, the band then recruited guitarist GitarthaGoswami. Earliervocalist Ankur Sharma, who was associated with the band for a briefPeriod, has since been looking after the band’s live sound and otherperformance related aspects.

The single was mixed and mastered at LUCID RECESS STUDIO (Guwahati, Assam).

Lyrically, as Samudra Da tells me and Iquote” BLOODRUSH specially deals with guilt. Often people dodespicable things and commit sins under a rush of blood to their heads, whenthey surrender to their more primitive animalistic instincts, but only whenthat rush of blood is over does one realise that the guilt which follows it,will have to be borne only by the human being that’s inside. That’s whatBLOODRUSH does to us. It’s the time when the sinner prefers redemption ratherthan forgiveness, and the thing that is common between the sinner and thesinned is that none of their souls can rest in peace… that is the dichotomyor paradox of BLOODRUSH.”

The band sound inherits from the native genres, theband members are coming from. Rainjong screams sets the tone, of this rollercoaster called BLOODRUSH. Rainjong delivers a myriad of emotions through hisvocals from start to finish. However the guitarists steal the show in this one.The twin guitar attack of Imtiyaz and Samundra is simply irresistible. The neatand slick solo, which sounds like a nice amalgamation of if all the niceties ofMegadeth and Iron Maiden were put together. Nishant isspot on, with the tempo changes ably supported by the workmanship of Himangshu.Mouth watering is the fact, that these guys have just started jamming and MEwonders what they will conjure up next. Me bows to SiddharthBarooa andAmitabh Barooa(LUCID RECESS STUDIO) who are largely responsible for making thebands from the region, sound like they have never been heard before.

In all, after the umpteenth core band hangover, I hope RectifiedSpirit’s Second Coming is the medicine, the scene’s condition especiallyneeded.
